‘Pretty’ village under an hour from Watford named among best places to live

Goring-on-Thames in South Oxfordshire was recently named on Muddy Stilettos’ annual ‘Best Places to Live’ list for the county.

The list highlights the areas of the UK that are “like no other”, with some described as “foodie havens”.

Among the named spots was Goring, a small village that can be reached in just an hour and 40 minutes via Paddington Station.

You can also drive to the Oxfordshire village in just over an hour via the M40.

The ‘pretty’ village an hour from Watford

Sharing why Goring made the list, Muddy Stilettos said: “It has all the lazy-English-summer-loveliness that you’d expect from such a scenic setting.”

With plenty to do and explore in Goring, a highlight of the village is its many places to stop for a meal.

Including the popular Catherine Wheel pub that dates back to the 18th century and has a large beer garden where they host an annual music festival.

For shopping, Goring is described as the perfect spot for artisan foodies, with The Goring Grocer filled with fresh vegetables, condiments, wines, pasta and much more.

Goring has a strong community, with the annual Goring Gap festival, along with local football, tennis and golf clubs.

The village also has some celebrity links, seeing attachment to George Michael and being the birthplace of The Who’s Pete Townshend.

Living in Goring will come at a cost, with the average house price at £1 million, you can expect to pay £1.22 million for a detached home and £815k for a semi-detached property.
