Long ago travellers would ford the River Colne at roughly the point where Watford stands now. Many of the residents of the UK only know Watford through the term 'north of Watford Gap', a term to describe its geography in relation to the south-east and the route through to the Midlands and the North.

 

The town is a large modern urban centre and many national companies have moved their headquarters into the area. Good High Street shopping can be found and in the evenings there is a buzzing nightlife.

 

Cassiobury Park is the lungs of the town, a 190 acre award winning large open space planted with daffodils in the Spring. The Watford Colosseum is venue for many concerts of exceptional renown with amazing acoustics, the theme music of Lord of the Rings, Stars Wars, and The Sound of Music were all recorded here. There is also the Edwardian Watford Palace Theatre and the Pumphouse Theatre and Arts Centre to wet the appetite of those who love the fine arts, comedy and drama.
